The Embassy of the United States of America in Kuwait is pleased to announce that it will start accepting applications for the MEPI Study of U.S. Institutions for Student Leaders summer program, which will take place in the United States of America. The program runs for six weeks in the summer at an American University starting the end of June through mid-August. Admission to the program is very competitive, and applicants are encouraged to explain their future plans for the development of Kuwait and what they wish to learn from this experience should they be selected.

The essential theme of the institutes will be how leadership is conceived and practiced in different capacities (governmental, community, civil society, private sector, etc.) and in different regions of the United States.  The two key components are: an academic residency, conducted at the host institution, running approximately four weeks; and an educational study tour to one or two regions of the United States other than the region where the host institution is

located, running approximately two weeks (including Washington, D.C.), designed to directly complement and reinforce the concepts explored in the academic residency program.  These components will be organized through a carefully integrated series of hands-on leadership training

workshops, academic sessions, local and study tour site visits, community service projects, optional home-stays and other opportunities for interaction with Americans peers and other cultural activities.

Applicants must be Kuwaiti or children of a Kuwaiti mother. They must be students between the ages of 18-22 by June 2008. Applicants must demonstrate good English language skills. They must be responsible students with superior grades as evidenced by their transcripts and a personal interview. Applicants will be required to obtain permission from their parents should they be selected for the program.

Students are encouraged to contact the U.S. Embassy in Kuwait for additional information on the program. The point of contact, Tasnim Saleh, Cultural Affairs Assistant, may be reached on salehta@state.gov or Tel: +965 259 1105.
