Social Security Number Applications
First-time applicants for Social Security Numbers (SSNs) must submit an original birth certificate as well as proof of US citizenship. A parent may apply for a child under eighteen (18) years of age, in which case the parent’s identification must be verified by a passport or valid photo. An original marriage and/or change of name certificate must be submitted in change of name cases. All first-time applicants eighteen (18) years of age or older must appear in person at the embassy. For replacement SSN cards, a US passport is generally sufficient for re-application.

We do not issue social security numbers. Social Security numbers are only issued by the Social Security Administration. The process when applying through the Embassy takes about 6 months. Our best (and standard) advice is that if you’ll be in the US, you can file the application stateside and it is faster compared to processing in other countries through Embassies.
If you wish to process your child’s application here in Kuwait we will forward it to the Social Security Administration. You will need to bring the following supporting documents:
- Child’s original U.S. passport
- Child’s original report of birth abroad certificate
- Parent’s Passport
When submitting your child’s social security number application, there is no need to bring your child. One parent can submit the application.
