Police Clearance Requirement

Effective August 1, 2009, the Government of Kuwait requires that all non-Kuwaiti citizens applying for Kuwaiti residency for the first time provide a police clearance certificate from their home country.  Please note that this document must be authenticated by the Embassy of the State of Kuwait in the country concerned.  The U.S. Embassy in Kuwait cannot provide individuals with a U.S. police clearance.

American citizens in the process of obtaining Kuwaiti residency for the first time should obtain a police clearance from their U. S. state of residence or from the FBI prior to their arrival to Kuwait.  Please note that police clearances are also required for dependents.

Authentications for U.S. documents must be done in the United States. American documents should be authenticated at the state level in the United States; then sent to the Authentications Office at the Department of State.  Documents should be mailed to: U.S. Department of State, Authentications Office,  518 23rd Street NW, SA-1, Washington, D.C. 20520.  The authentication fee is $8.00 per document.  A personal/company check or money order made payable to the U.S. Department of State must be submitted with the document.  After the State Department has completed the authentication process, the Embassy of Kuwait must then authenticate the document.  That address is:  Embassy of Kuwait, 2940 Tilden Street NW, Washington, D.C. 20008; phone (202) 966-0702.

For additional guidance on authentication procedures, including instructions on the information that should be included in a cover letter with the document, please view the information provided through the link below:
