U.S. Summer Study Students Thank Chevron Corporate Sponsor
A group of 23 Kuwaiti students who participated this past summer in a Chevron Corporation-funded English-language study program in the United States gathered at the Radisson SAS hotel on November 23 to formally thank Chevron for its generous support of the program. The group of 13 boys and 10 girls, aged 15-17, traveled to West Palm Beach, Florida, in June and July where they studied English and visited to local attractions. The Global Language institute in Florida was a reward for students who actively participated in the U.S. Government-funded English Access Microscholarship Program, which gives English-language scholarships to students in the Middle East. It is managed by AMIDEAST in cooperation with the American Embassy in Kuwait. The summer program, funded by Chevron Corporation, offers a unique opportunity for select Access scholarship youth to study English in the United States.

Mr. Hani Iskander, President of Chevron Corporation in Kuwait, attended the reception and heard from the students about the many positive experiences they had on the summer program. The students showed a slide show from their many activities in Florida that gave Mr. Iskander and the parents who were present a look at classroom and social events.
Hassan Al Banai, one of the camp counselors who accompanied the students, thanked Chevron for its generous support of the program. He commented that such foreign-study opportunities build the character of the students and give them the freedom to discover who they are. Country Director of AMIDEAST/Kuwait, Maureen Al Dakheel, also spoke to the group and commended Chevron for its corporate citizenship. On behalf of the students, she presented Mr. Iskander with a plaque of appreciation.
