FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE

The U.S. Embassy Announces the Start of the 2009 Diversity Visa Program

The United States Embassy is pleased to announce the beginning of the 2009 Diversity Visa Lottery.  The Diversity Visa Program offers 50,000 permanent resident visas annually for qualified individuals from countries with low rates of immigration to the United States.

The 2009 Diversity Visa (DV) Lottery registration period will run from noon EST on Wednesday, October 3, 2007, until noon EST on Sunday, December 2, 2007.  The entire lottery will be conducted electronically, including the initial lottery entry process.  Paper entries will not be accepted.  For information on how to submit a DV-2009 entry, please visit the Department of State’s dedicated Visa Lottery website at www.dvlottery.state.gov.

There is no charge to download and complete the Electronic Diversity Visa Entry Form.  Applicants may prepare and submit their own entries, or have someone submit an entry on their behalf.  However, only one entry may be submitted for each individual, and the person entering the lottery is responsible for ensuring the accuracy and completeness of their information.

Entries which have been successfully registered will display a printable confirmation screen containing the applicant's name, date of birth, country of chargeability, and a date/time stamp.  In order to prevent fraud, the Department of State notifies successful Diversity Visa applicants by letter, and NOT by email.
