“American Trivia Night” at Diva’s Restaurant
Do you know which American president authored the Declaration of Independence, founded a major university and submitted a design for the new White House in Washington, D.C.? Which American state that has the longest border with neighboring Canada? Can you name the actor/actress who received the most Oscar best performance nominations in history? You can test your knowledge on these questions and others about American life, history and culture at “American Trivia Night” at Diva’s restaurant in Salmiya on Monday, July 30, 2007, from 7:00 p.m. to 9:00 p.m. The event, which is open to the general public, is jointly sponsored by the American Embassy and Diva’s restaurant.

Participants will group as teams at their respective tables. While enjoying their meals they will compete against each other by answering trivia questions on topics including American history, cuisine, geography, business, music and theatre, art and film, holidays, sports and famous Americans. Prizes will be awarded to winners. The five rounds will consist of a general competition among all the teams that will last approximately one hour. The participants of the top two teams will then compete as individuals in a final round of trivia.

America’s third president, Thomas Jefferson, wrote the Declaration of Independence, founded the University of Virginia, and was a successful architect, though the design he submitted for the new White House were not chosen. The state of Alaska has a 2,475-kilometer border with neighboring Canada. The actress Meryl Streep holds the Oscar best performance nomination record at 13 nominations. Actress Katherine Hepburn and actor Jack Nicholson have each received 12 nominations.
