DHS Secretary Chertoff Meets with Kuwaiti U.S. Student Alumni Members

U.S. Department of Homeland Security (DHS) Secretary Michael Chertoff met on March 24 with a delegation from the National Union of Kuwaiti Students–U.S.A. Branch.  Secretary Chertoff, whose department is responsible for welcoming visitors to the U.S. and for monitoring the status of foreign students on American soil, takes a special interest in issues of concern to foreign students in the United States.  At the U.S. Embassy in Bayan, the Secretary met with Dhari Aljutaili, a former National Union of Kuwaiti Students-U.S.A. branch vice president, and Abdullah Alwadhi, a former president and secretary, who are now members of the organization’s Alumni Club.

During the meeting, the student representatives thanked the Secretary for American hospitality to Kuwaiti students in the U.S.  They also expressed a willingness to provide input on any efforts to better serve foreign students.  The Secretary thanked the delegation for the warm welcome to Kuwait and noted their shared goal in creating a welcoming and productive environment for students of all nationalities.  There are an estimated 2,500 Kuwaitis attending colleges and universities throughout the United States.
