Information Resource Center
The Information Resource Center (IRC) assists students, researchers, scholars, and professionals by providing information about American politics, economics, society, and culture. The IRC director has access to a variety of electronic databases and archives rich in facts and figures about the United States.
• Lexis Nexis – News, legal, and business articles from more than 3,200 publications.
• Leadership Directories – A comprehensive database of Who’s Who in the United States.
• Federal News Service – Official transcripts of U.S. congressional hearings and other official U.S. government proceedings.
• GaleNet – Access point to several informative directories, including the Encyclopedia of Associations and the Broadcast Media.
• First Search – More than 65 reference databases, including bibliographies.
• Stat-USA – Official data about the U.S. economy collected by the U.S. Department of Commerce.
• Factiva – Access to 6,000 newswires, newspapers, magazines and trade journals.
• Washington File – The official text of policy statements delivered by U.S. government officials.
The IRC also manages three American Corners hosted by Kuwait University, American University of Kuwait and Gulf University for Science and Technology. American Corners are public access facilities that offer information about the U.S. through books, DVDs, Internet access, and American speakers. |
Digital Video Conferencing DVC is a live, interactive electronic means of communication. Two or more people in different geographic locations can engage in face-to-face audio and visual exchanges using cameras, monitors, and document software. For Public Affairs, DVC is an intergral electronic outreach tool, because DVC technology many different areas of educational videoconferencing use, promising practices with established records of reliable delivery of instruction and course material. |
