What is the Fulbright Program?

•  The Fulbright program was established in 1946 by the U.S. congress to “enable the government of the United States to increases mutual understanding between the people of the United States and the people of other countries.” 

•  The American Embassy of Kuwait offers the following programs for students and scholars


Projects in The United States


Fulbright programs for visiting (Non U.S.) Scholars and Institutions
 
•  Fulbright Scholar—this program sends 800 faculty and professionals from around the world to the U.S. for advanced research and lecturing.
 
•  Fulbright Visiting Specialist: Direct access to the Muslim world—The program provides opportunities for U.S. higher educational institutions to host specialists from the Muslim world for short term programs of intensive lecturing.
 
•  Hubert H. Humphrey Fellowship— This fellowship brings accomplished professionals from designated countries of Africa, Asia, Latin American, the Caribbean, the Middle East, Europe and Eurasia to the United States at a midpoint in their careers for a year of study and related professional experiences.
 
•  The Fulbright Science and Technology— This award is designed to be among the most prestigious U.S. international scholarships in science and technology.  This award is for PhD study at top U.S. institutions in science, technology, or engineering. The program if funded by the Bureau of Educational and Cultural Affairs at the U.S. Department of States and aims to bring students from all around the world to pursue their higher education in the United States.
 
•  Foreign Language Teaching Assistant (FLTA) — The Foreign Language Teaching Assistant program is an opportunity for young teachers of English to refine their teaching skills, increase their language proficiency and extend their knowledge of the cultures and customs of the United States. 


Projects in the Middle East


Fulbright Programs for U.S. Scholars  

•  Traditional Fulbright Scholars—this program sends 800 U.S. faculty and professionals abroad each year.

•  Fulbright Senior Specialists—Opportunities for U.S. faculty and staff to work overseas advising institutions for a period ranging from two to six weeks.
