Marine Security Guard
The United States Marine Security Guard (MSG) is responsible for providing security at 149 U.S. embassies and consulates around the world. Those on MSG duty are responsible primarily for providing interior security services, including the protection of sensitive national security information. MSG personnel are trained to react to terrorist acts as well as a variety of other emergencies such as fires, riots, demonstrations and evacuations.
In addition to the rigorous physical and mental challenges involved in becoming a U.S. Marine, recruits often cite the opportunities for travel and adventure as a reason for joining the Corps. Perhaps no other billet in the Marines, or any service, offers better opportunities for these than Marine Security Guard duty.
Marines also take pride in interacting with host communities. Since 1947, Marines stationed all over the world have been forging ties with local communities through volunteer projects, including the annual Toys for Tots program. Collecting and donating toys for children is a gesture of goodwill that the U.S. Marines customarily perform at holiday time as part of this worldwide charitable program.
In Kuwait, toys are donated by students and faculty at the American School, by employees and family members of the U.S. Embassy, as well as by individual American contractors working in Kuwait.
